Blended Familes Have Unique Challenges

It takes time to learn how to function as an expanded family. Expect it to take as long as four years. Love does not usually occur instantly between stepparent and stepchildren or among stepsiblings. Conflicting habits do not easily blendtogether. Adjustments are less frustrating when expectations are minimal and realistic.

Learn how to respond to...

Dysfunctional and bonding issues
Resentment of a new parent or step-siblings
Interference of a former spouse
Unique vulnerabilities
• The role of multiple step children

Friday Night 7:00 - 8:00pm

“What five things can we do to make things better right away?”

Friday Night 8:15 - 9:15pm

“Living and dying on unrealistic expectations.”

Saturday Morning 9:00 - 10:15am

“How can we know when we’re disciplining too much or not enough?”

Saturday Morning 10:30 - 11:45am

“I need more ‘me time,’ is that bad?”

James Gorton

I grew up among the wheat fields of eastern Colorado with parents who gave me a strong sense of values and taught me the importance of family connections. My childhood dream of coaching professional baseball has become a divine calling to coach families and professionals struggling in the labyrinths of life. When I'm in time-out mode, I'm on the golf course, pursuing the elusive dream of a hole in one.

I have a BA in Education, an MA in Psychology, a DMin in Marriage and Family and a PhD in Clinical Psychology and Organizational Development. I specialize in communication, mediation, and conflict resolution.

Cynthia Gorton

My family loves traditions and, while growing up, I enjoyed almost every creative celebration imaginable, from Princess Tea Parties to authentic Hawaiian luaus. I often share this rich heritage of traditions with individuals and families who are struggling with fragmented relationships. It's one of my greatest joys to help others restructure their priorities and establish traditions that then become precious lifetime memories for them. I love to do interior design and have a strange desire to clean out closets when I need to relax.

I hold a BA in Education, an MC in Counseling, and a PhD in Education Leadership. My expertise is child, adolescent, and adult development.
