HELLO NORTH RIDGE
FAMILY!
March 11th
– March 18th 2010
(For your
convenience the weekly email is now available on our website also.)
WHAT’S UP ON SUNDAY?
(03/14/2010)
Join
us Sunday as Pastor Mike explores the nineth proven principle (“thou shall not
bear false witness”) that God has
provided for those who want to have healthy relationships. Play by the Rules is a 10-week series on the ‘Big 10’ – the
Ten Commandments. (If
you missed a Sunday, we have audio CD’s available in the lobby or online.)
IN TOUCH FELLOWSHIP – THIS Monday March 15th @
6:30 (Ridge Café)
Save
the date now for our March 15th event. We will be preparing our hearts as we head into the Easter
season. With the celebration of the
resurrection of Christ rapidly approaching, we will learn about the Seder
(Passover) Supper Jesus celebrated with His disciples and what it means to us
as Christians. Our special guest, Cathy
Wilson from Chosen People
Ministries, will share with us the rich symbolism the traditional
Jewish Seder meal has, and how it all points to Jesus as the Messiah. If you haven’t already received our automated
sign-up email – stop by the women’s table on Sunday to sign up! (Note: We have moved our Pajama Party to
our April event!)
After an extended break, we are getting back together
for three weeks of rehearsals starting Wednesday, March 17th
@ 6:30pm in the Ridge Café to prepare for Easter. We will be combing voices with the adult
choir and singing one song at our Easter service (April 4th). Rehearsals are 3/17, 3/24 and 3/31. Children grades 1-5 who love to sing, act
and dance are invited to participate - and bring their non-NRCC friends along
too. For more information contact the group’s
director Margaret Watson at (480) 488-6359 or margetme@cox.net.
ANNUAL ALL-CHURCH
PICNIC – Sunday, March 21st @ Noon
Spring
is in the air and it’s time for our annual church picnic! Join us right after 3rd hour on Sunday,
March 21st for food, fun and games.
Mark your calendar now! We’ll
have a bouncy for the kids and lots of great food and the opportunity to meet
other NRCC families.
NEW – MEN’S BIBLE STUDY – Monday, March 22nd 6:30pm
(The Forum)
Men
– if you want to be part of a learning experience that will challenge and
stretch you, maybe you’re ready for the next step. Once a month we will dig into a very current and
significant subject and find out what is the Truth – the unadulterated Truth –
the Words and Spirit of God. And here’s
the good part – you will be an active participant. Leadership will introduce the topic in advance. You will have a month to study it, apply it
come prepared with questions or comments to discuss it with the group. Good stories of learning and walking by
faith will be the norm. Are you
Ready…for the next step? We meet on the
4th Monday of the month @ 6:30 in the Forum. Join us for our first gathering on Monday,
March 22nd. Contact Tom
Murray with any questions at (602) 577-6638 or stop by the Men’s table on
Sunday.
FREEDOM ACADEMY SCHOOL – THIS Sunday, March 14th
Freedom
Academy is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) charter school serving Kindergarten
through 8th grade students in North Scottsdale. We are dedicated to preparing children for a lifetime of
activity, involvement, and positive contributions to family, friends, and
community, integrated with a love for learning. We have several North Ridge families already attending our North
Campus. If you ‘d like to learn more
about us, stop by the table in the lobby on March 7th or March 14th
or call (480) 419-8200.
Our Statement of Beliefs
We believe all students...have
inherent value; are accountable for their actions; are entitled to a safe and appropriate
learning environment; can learn; are entitled to a quality education. We believe all teachers are responsible for
providing instruction and guidance.
We believe all adults in our school
system should be appropriate models for our students.
MENDING THE SOUL (abuse victim healing support group) WE
STILL HAVE OPENINGS!
When
God heals a woman, He heals a family – and He wants to heal you. Jesus saw the man at the pool in Jerusalem
who had been lame for 38 years. He said
to him, “Do you want to get well”? (John 5:6). There is hope for healing from the effects
of abuse. Mending The Soul is a
ministry specifically designed to help women who have suffered as the result of
abuse. New groups begin Monday, March 8th
(9:30am off campus), and Wednesday evening, March 10th (6pm in the Flagstaff
Rm) and require a 12-15 week commitment.
Space is limited, so please contact Elizabeth Hussey at (480) 363-2709
for more details.
We are forming a new contemporary choir who would
sing back up to our Living Source band once a month (11am). We don’t need ‘lead singers’ - just someone who can carry a tune and
loves to sing for the Lord. You’d need
to be available one Tuesday (rehearsal) and Sunday per month. So if you’ve always wanted to get involved –
now is the time. We need at least 20
singers. Contact Marshall @ (480)
515-4673 or mmcluhan@northridge.org.
SPECIAL MUSICAL – SAVIOUR – Sunday, March 21st
Saviour,
a modern oratorio beautifully presents the story of God’s passion for His
people. Starting from the beginning
with Adam, Eve and the serpent, the exodus of God’s people from Egyptian
bondage, to the birth, life, suffering, death and Resurrection of Jesus the
Christ. Presented by the North Ridge
Voices and guests. Guest soloists
Dr. Jim Burns and Mr. James Coulter join with soloists from NRCC and the
community. Accompaniment provided by
NRCC Orchestra and guest musicians from ASU.
Your heart and soul will be greatly moved by this presentation. We have "invite tickets"
available at the Significant Living table in the lobby. Please pick some up and be sure to invite
your friends! Pastor Randy will also
be providing a live Sunday sermon in the Coffee House at 11am.
A community for young adults
Catalyst
is designed to provide fellowship and spiritual growth opportunities for young
adults between the ages of 19 and 29.
We’ve discovered that while many of us have a connection to North Ridge,
we do not have many meaningful connections to one another. Catalyst will help us cultivate deeper
friendships while also growing in our relationship with God. So … whether you are a career person, a
student, or a young couple, we’re delighted to offer this special opportunity
to you. Each Sunday at 9:30 we’ll
gather for an hour of fellowship and coffee, Scripture and discussion. Our topic for the first several weeks will
be Tough Questions. We’ll explore a variety of hot topic issues
regarding Christianity. It’s sure to be
a lively conversation! Call/text Pastor
Steve at (480) 510-9518 for more info.
For couples in their 20’s & 30’s who are recently married or
have young children
Join
Pastor Dan for a 9-week video series on Effective Parenting in a Defective
World. Author Chip Ingram, a pastor
and father of four grown children, tells befuddled parents that it IS possible
to raise exceptional children in a world gone wild. Learn God’s plan for effective discipline, punishment vs.
discipline and words that discipline.
Each week you’ll learn practical steps to incorporate into your daily
routine that will strengthen the bonds between you and your children.
NEW – Call of the
Garden - 11:00am (Prescott Room) February 28th – March
28th
“And the Lord God called out ‘Where are
you?’” Genesis 3:9
Join
Bruce Wilson for this 5-week interactive, Biblically based series. You’ll learn to: find your place to find
God; understand God’s loving purpose in your hardships; discern God’s small,
still voice; discover the secret to fruitful ministry; create a deeper
connection with Christ. No need to sign
up – just show up! Feel free to contact
Bruce @ (480) 203-8064 or brucew777@gmail.com.
CALLING ALL NRCC ARTISTS!
North Ridge will be sponsoring any of you who would

music, choreography, photography, visual arts, and short stories for the
upcoming 5th Annual Cave
Creek Film and Arts Festival.
(Limited to one entry per person.)
If you're interested contact Marshall here at the church for more
info. The deadline to get involved is

HELP US STAY GREEN!
NEW! Now on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings
you can use the large blue bin located just outside the church office for your
newspaper and magazine drop-off. Bag up
your weekly paper donations and bring it along when you attend church services
on Sunday or when you join the ladies on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for
women's Bible Study or Kate's Cup. Your
help is needed to keep this recycling program going. Recent changes to our agreement with the Paper Retriever
recycling company make it imperative we collect at least one ton of paper per
month or begin paying for this service.
Help us continue to be good stewards of God's blessings and keep this
program going. Thanks for helping us
stay green!

B.I.G. 2010 PLEDGE DRIVE
Pastor Mike has asked us to Think
B.I.G. in 2010! We adopted the
B.I.G. theme – as we want to be a B.I.G. church…meaning Biblical,
Influential and Grace Based.
If you are a regular North Ridge attender, you should have received a
letter from Pastor Mike asking you to do two things:
Ø
Pray
for God’s wisdom for our leadership team as they seek the best way to continue
to take His Word to our community, and
Ø
Pray
about the part God would have you to play in the financial support of our
ministry in general and our “Ridge Bridge” project in particular
God has given us a big
assignment and we trust Him to provide the resources to accomplish it! To date, 178 folks have made pledges
totaling $132K+ for our B.I.G. 2010 campaign.
(This is a special offering above and beyond their regular
tithes.) It’s not too late to take
part in this pledge drive, stop by the Information table for a pledge card or request
one by email.
LEGACY LANE/MEMORIAL LANE
BRICKS
We also
introduced our Legacy Lane brick paver project. The minimum pledge to qualify is $200. Upon receipt of the first $200 of your
pledge you can order an engraved brick paver.
Your paver will be installed in either Legacy Lane
(Courtyard Patio) or in our new Memorial Lane (Prayer
Garden). The Memorial Lane
is reserved for honoring your departed loved ones. See the paver samples at the information table in the lobby this
Sunday. If you have already submitted
your pledge card, you will soon receive a form for your use in ordering your
paver. After receipt of the first $200
of your pledge your paver will be ordered and installed soon after the
engraving is completed.
AUTOMATIC TITHE PAYMENTS
Did you know that if you do online banking
you could set up North Ridge as one of your automatic recurring payments? Many of you are already taking advantage of
this easy way to make your tithe offering.
You can make them weekly, monthly or whatever time frame you
prefer. Just be sure to indicate in the
check memo section how to designate the funds.
(For example; $200 General, $100 BIG ‘10 Fund.) If you need assistance, contact your local
bank. The only thing you’ll need from
us is our address! (6363 E Dynamite Blvd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331)

main theme is “finding out who we are in Christ”! We will learn how
we are seated with Christ, how to live the abundant life each day and how to
stand against the enemy and celebrate the victory that we have in Christ. Stop by the women’s table for more
information or contact Lue Neff at (480) 473-8820.

Significant Living
Celebrating Life
and Faith – Midlife and Beyond
SIGNIFICANT
LIVING
Mission: To direct people to Christ and to provide a
local gathering place for relationships, fun and resources to foster the
celebration of life and faith in midlife and beyond.
The
umbrella name for all of our North Ridge midlife and beyond ministries is SIGNIFICANT
LIVING. This is a group designed for like-minded
people who want to maximize the aging season of their lives. It is all about having a positive and
optimistic vision of how to live a meaningful life you grow older. The “second half” of life should be a vital
and vibrant time. Check out all the
groups below that are part of our SIGNIFICANT
LIVING ministry:
ENCORE - the name says it
all. If you have ever been to a concert
that was so excellent you didn’t want it to end, you have most likely cheered
for an encore. Stood and applauded and
maybe even whistled. Wanted more and
hoped the best was saved for last.
Our next ENCORE
event is the Botanical Gardens Butterfly tour ~ Saturday,
April 10th. Watch this
email each week to get more information.
Spring
Butterfly Exhibit - Stroll through hundreds of colorful butterflies in the
Marshall Butterfly Pavilion.

PRAYER SHAWL
MINISTRY - Reaching Those
in Need
Psalm 139: 13-14 You created every part of me, knitting me
in my mother's womb. For such handiwork, I praise you. Awesome this great
wonder.
If you would be interested in being a part of
the Prayer Shawl ministry by either making a shawl or donating yarn or by
simply making a donation, please contact Pastor Dwayne or Shari McLuhan at the
Significant Living table in the lobby.
Or you may email them at DSMTF@aol.com.
Be present dear Father here as we knit these shawls. We remember all those for whom we knit these
shawls:
Those who are lonely and need to know they are loved,
Those who are ill and yearn for healing of body, mind and
spirit,
Those who face challenging decisions and search for
guidance,
Those who are grieving and welcome comforting words and
actions,
Those who are celebrating newness of life and rejoice in
the warmth and richness
surrounding them.
Bind us together in one community of love, founded on the
faith that Your love and grace are everlasting. Amen
A recent note from a person who received a Prayer Shawl:
Dear Prayer Shawl Friends,
Thank you so very much for the beautiful shawl which shows your
love along with Christ's love! It was a
wonderful surprise to me and I will cherish it forever. I have been grieving at the loss of my
precious husband who passed away recently.
May God bless you all who are involved with this ministry.
With His love & mine
Another person who received a Prayer Shawl commented:
You will never know how much this shawl means to me. It is wonderful to know that there was
someone praying with each stitch for the person that was going to receive
it. I have recently been diagnosed with
a terminal medical problem, and now I can put this shawl over my neck and
shoulders and it helps me focus on my relationship with Jesus. Thank you so very much!!

PRISON MINISTRY - Matthew 25: 36
“ I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was
in prison and you came to Me.”
Christ
encourages us to visit the prisoners, not because they are a harder nut to
crack but because they are diamonds in the rough. Separated from the world they have nothing to distract them from
the Word and God’s longing for their love and obedience. The only qualifications
necessary is a deep love of Jesus Christ and the willingness to share this
love. Badges to qualify you for entry
into the prison systems are attained by attending one-day seminars to learn the
rules and regulations, along with two character reference letters including one
from your pastor.
If you are interested in being involved in the
prison ministry, please sign up at the Significant Living table in the church
lobby, and/or call the leader - Lorne Peat at (480) 502-0853.

NEW - MENDING THE
SOUL (abuse victim healing support group)
When God heals a woman, He
heals a family – and He wants to heal you.
Jesus saw the man at the pool in Jerusalem who had been lame for 38

you want to get well”? (John 5:6). There is hope for healing from the effects of abuse. Mending The Soul is a ministry
specifically designed to help women who have suffered as the result of
abuse. New groups begin Monday morning,
March 8th (off campus), and Wednesday evening, March 10th (6pm in
the Flagstaff Rm) and require a 12-15 week commitment. Space is limited, so please contact

traditional Jewish Seder meal has, and how it all points to Jesus as the
Messiah. If you haven’t already

MERGE – NEW 4TH /5TH
GRADE MINITRY
We have a brand new ministry especially for our 4th/5th
graders called MERGE! MERGE will meet
the special needs of this ‘Tweener’ group of kids as they begin their
transition from grade school to junior high.
So join us in the Ocotillo Room in Kids Alley at either the 9:30 or
11:00 am service. (During the 8:00am
service – the 4th/5th graders are invited to join the 2nd-3rd
graders in Fun Factory 2).
Every month in
the Fun Factory – we study a new virtue, memorize a scripture verse and learn a
new bottom line weekly (application).
We invite parents to review this information with their kids every week
and help reinforce and apply what they are learning!
Virtue: Honesty—choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.
Memory Verse: “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who
are truthful.” Proverbs 12:22, NIV
Bible Story: Cover Up (Joseph’s brothers lied to Jacob) • Genesis 37:17b-36; 45:25-28
Bottom Line: When you’re not truthful, you hurt the people you should
care about most.

UPDATE
FROM THE LUDWIG FAMILY – OUR MISSIONARIES IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA (Posted 3/04/10)
We recently had some of the
island leadership over for a visit and they talked about an event that the Mouk
Tribe engaged in last January. They
sent one of their members to our regional island center to share how the
believers there have learned from God’s Word that they were to give to those
who had labored among them in the Gospel.
They wanted to give to the missionaries with New Tribes Ministry. They gave two buckets of coins to the
mission! The Mouk Tribe lives in rustic
huts with very little cash and opportunities to earn money. What an example of sacrificial giving! The people were responding to what they had
read in Scripture and felt led by God’s Spirit. It is a picture of the heart of people that desire to serve God!

UPDATE FROM WALT EDMAN – OUR MISSIONARY IN ASIA (Posted 2/18/10)
Dear North Ridge Community
Church friends,
If you are like me, you are
very concerned with many developments in America, especially during this last
year. Many decisions are being made by
political leaders in Washington DC that are having serious negative effects on
our country, both for the short term and for the long term. I do know that my intercession for our
country has taken an increasingly greater portion of my prayer times and an
increasing intensity as I cry out to God for this nation.
In the midst of all the bad
news that we are hearing every day, there is good news for God’s people: The Lord is acting powerfully around the
world – in ways that we don’t hear on CNN, or even on
FOX. The Lord is mightily at work as He
moves forward with His plans for world evangelization – He is bringing in a
global harvest of people turning to Christ.
We rejoice that His plans cannot be thwarted and that He is building His
Church. For this, we praise His Name,
and are further encouraged to pray that His will shall be fully accomplished.
So, as God’s children, we grieve at the evil in the world, and at the
same time we know that the Lord is superintending human history. We experience sadness and a sense of loss
regarding developments in America. At
the same time we can rest with a deep inner peace that is rooted in our sure
knowledge of Who God is – He is sovereign; He is all-powerful; He is all-wise;
He is gracious and merciful. We take
heart in the fact that the Lord is working out His plans around the globe and
that His plans will ultimately glorify His Name.
Our job is to be faithful – faithful in our witness, faithful in our
service, faithful in our Spirit-led action, faithful in our prayers, faithful
in our stewardship. These are the ways
we participate in God’s kingdom purposes.
Thank you for your prayers for me over the next few weeks as I
participate in missions conferences here in the States. Please pray that the Lord would use me to
encourage believers to “lift up their eyes and look on fields, that they are
ripe for harvest.” Even as we see what
is happening in our own country, we as Christians need to keep in view the big
picture of the Lord’s global purposes.
For
His glory among the nations,
Walt
UPDATE FROM THE NUNZIATO FAMILY – OUR MISSIONARIES SERVING HISPANIC COMMUNITIES IN OREGON (Posted 2/11/10)
This is one of my favorite
times of year, because I enjoy telling people that I love and appreciate them,
and I love hearts! Valentine’s
Day, as we know it in the US, isn’t celebrated in some countries…but the Latin
American countries we have lived in each have their own versions of this day of
“love and friendship”. In Colombia it
was celebrated in September! Tom and I
have the privilege of speaking at a couple’s dinner for a Spanish speaking
church in Newport, Oregon this Saturday night.
Sunday morning Tom will be preaching at another Hispanic church, and
then we will be doing a short talk during their Feb 14th celebration
in the afternoon. We’ll bring our two
terrific teens along, and make a weekend of it…hopefully with something
enjoyable for Michael and Alicia between the ministry commitments. We appreciate you, and thank God for
you! Have a happy “love and friendship”
day, remembering that God wants to be our most special Valentine!
Love, Janni

Did you know North Ridge
families brought 31 babies into the world in 2009!
HOPE VICTORIA PORCHE
Keith & Tiffany welcomed their second child and
first daughter on December 16th – an early Christmas gift! She was a healthy 7lbs 10oz and is just shy
of 20 inches ‘tall’. Her big brother
Benjamin is taking to his new role quite well.
We’d love to share your good news with
everyone. Just email a picture with the
baby’s name and date of birth to Jamie Curley.

NORTH RIDGE
LIVE (3RD hour worship team) (Posted 3/4/10)
Hey guys – in case you
didn’t know, Marshall McLuhan (our 3rd hour worship leader) has
been working on an outreach project on MySpace for the past year. It’s just another avenue to connect people
with Christ through music. Check it
out -just click here. You can hear the music and check out a few
videos. It’s a great way to invite your
friends to church – just send them the link and ask them if they’d like to join
you some Sunday. We recently found out
that for unsigned Christian artists – his page is ranked
#13 in the nation. (See Daily Chart/Christian/Unsigned) He is connecting with people all over
the world by using the awesome technology we have available today. We all spend time online – so now it’s your
turn to reach out to someone and help get them connected with the Truth!
NEED SOME
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES? (Posted 3/4/10)
The church purchased a
10-slot Hitech 9-volt battery charger with 30 rechargeable batteries
(Tenergy 9V 250mAh NiMH high capacity).
As it turns out, we cannot use them as they cause our microphones to hum
and we are unable to return them! If
you have a need for this equipment and would be interested in purchasing it at
a discount, please contact Jamie in the office @ (480) 515-4673.
THRIFTSMART – CLOTHING DRIVE
You may have noticed a new blue
collection bin in the southeast corner of our parking lot (next to the
green/yellow paper recycling bin). We
are now collecting gently used clothing, small household items and book/movies/cds. These items will not only benefit four local
charities (see below), but will serve as a fundraiser for our High School
Ministry. Thriftsmart donations benefit
the following: Phoenix Rescue Mission, HopeKids, Young Life and Food for the
Hungry. So the next time you are
cleaning out the garage or making more room in your closet – please remember to
bring your gently used items to church with you and drop them off at our
convenient collection bin. Your support
now only helps give back to the community and assist those in need, but it
provides another life cycle and keeps useable items out of our landfills. Everyone benefits!
BASHAS’ – SHOP & GIVE PROGRAM
Bashas has renamed their Thanks
A Million community fundraising program to Shop & Give. If you have a Bashas’ Thank You shopping
card – the next time you are checking out – just ask them to link our NRCC group #23737 to your
card. Every year North Ridge will
receive a donation based on a percentage of your total grocery bill. It’s a great way to get additional donations
for NRCC ministries! This program runs
from 9/1/8-3/31/09. Each year you need
to request to re-link your card to the NRCC group number.
