At The Movies: Learn to Rewrite YOUR Story! (Week 4)

How many of you remember Christopher Reeves as the first Superman on the big screen?  I remember being a young boy watching these movies and wanting to fly so bad.  Did any of you ever get on the roof of your house to see if you could fly?  Or maybe you stood on the ground while one of your friends did it, saying, “Go for it, you got this.”  Movies can give us crazy ideas, stir our emotions, and even sometimes make us wish we could fly.

This is the first time we’ve done a series like this, so let me thank you for being patient and flexible with us.  As many of you who have loved this sort of series, I’m sure some of you are questioning why spend four weeks playing movie clips in church.

Very simply put, it’s because the World, but especially Americans love stories, and I want to connect you the greatest story ever told: The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Secondly, as a follower of Christ I believe we are called to engage the culture we find ourselves in or we are being negligent. Based upon 1 Peter 3:15, we are expected to have a winsome, truthful, but loving engagement with those who don’t know God:

“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always be prepared to make a defense (give an answer) to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” That requires engagement, not isolation or withdrawal.

This Sunday we are looking at the newest version of Superman, Batman Vs. Superman.  Did you know Superman is one of the most iconic Messianic figures in Hollywood?  Our ultimate goal this Sunday will be to help you learn how to rewrite your story.  We will look at three problems and three solutions to doing just that.  I believe this is a message we all need to hear and my prayer is that you will be inspired and challenged to trust more and Go where God says Go!

All In,

Pastor Chad
