Money, Sex & Power (Week 1)

Have you ever wondered how two different people can look at the exact same thing and come to such a different conclusion? A guy drives to the basket and a foul is called. One coach after viewing the replay 10 times swears the foul never occurred, the other coach swears it did! A certain couple (not mentioning any names) goes to see the Mr. Rogers movie. When it’s over the girl declares it to be “the movie of the millennium” but the guy declares it to be “the dullest of the decade”. How do you explain such different assessments of the exact same experience? By something called “world view”.

We all look at the world through different sets of lenses and assume that we have it right and others who disagree have it wrong. Unfortunately, sometimes our view is strong, yet wrong! That’s why we need to learn to look at life from God’s point of view. This Sunday we begin a new sermon series that will help us do just that! We will look at our culture’s three hottest buttons (Money, Sex and Power) from God’s perspective. As we open God’s Word, we will learn “what God’s guys need to know about dough” (aka money) and how to blend our faith with our finances! Our worship team even has a special surprise up their sleeve that will be a great blast from the past!

It’s going to be a wonderful weekend, so I hope you’ll join us and invite a friend to come with you. Money is something that most people worry about and that everyone has to deal with so we need to check in with Jesus, the ideal money manager! I can’t wait to hang out together on Sunday. Sure do love doing this walk of faith with you and your crew.

Together In His Grace,

Pastor Mike

Some Of This Coming Week’s Scripture Passages: (Your One-A-Day Vitamin)

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Luke 12:13-21 … Jesus replied… “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions …

Psalm 24:1-2 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.

1 Timothy 6:6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Acts 20:35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus Himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
